The Abbott World Marathon Majors Global Run Club has launched its bi-annual virtual AbbottWMM Global Marathon, which will be open to runners all around the world from March 5 to April 23.
The 2023 race window covers the spring Majors – Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon and TCS London Marathon – to allow runners to ‘double-dip’ on their efforts.
To successfully complete the Global Marathon, club members must connect a compatible device before running their 26.2 miles so their performance synchronizes to the platform and appears on the leaderboard.
Those who complete their virtual run while running a Major or another qualifying event will earn world ranking points and be in contention for one of the 200 invites on offer for runners age 40+ for the 2024 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.
The Global Run Club is once again offering runners the chance to purchase a finisher medal online and collect at the AbbottWMM Expo booth in Tokyo, Boston or London. To take advantage of this option, runners must order two weeks ahead of their chosen race week. Shipping is available for those who are running their virtual race at home or at another in-person spring race.
The 2023 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships will take place on October 8 as part of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The location for the 2024 World Championships will be announced in due course.
