Runners can crawl through mud, be chased by zombies and be challenged by a variety of obstacles these days. Here's something completely different: The Tomato Run. Inspired by the Spanish sensation, La Tomatina, The Tomato Run is a 5K fun run incorporating pounds of inedible, surplus tomatoes that would otherwise go to waste.
The race will be offered in two locations in 2013: Baltimore, MD (October 19), and Dallas, TX (November 23).
Participants will run, jump, dodge and jog on a fun and incredibly messy course while the “Tomato Army” attempts to douse passing runners in squashed tomato remnants. Once runners cross the finish line, they enter the Tomato Arena where an all-out tomato battle begins. When you’re done, hose off and meet up with family and friends for food, drinks, music and merchandise.
Don’t want to run? Join the Tomato Army, hang out with family and friends in the Kids Zone, or Volunteer.
