USA Triathlon Announces Second Annual Youth Splash & Dash Aquathlon Series 

Forty nationwide swim-run events aim to introduce multisport to youth athletes

USA Triathlon announced today the 40 events from across the United States that will comprise the second annual USA Triathlon Youth Aquathlon Splash & Dash Aquathlon Series in 2013.

After debuting in 2012 with 30 events and more than 1,300 participants, the growing swim-run series has added 10 races for this season. Each of USA Triathlon's 10 regions was represented in the series a year ago, and each region will host at least two events in 2013. Twenty-one of the 30 events from 2012 return on the 2013 slate.

Educating youth athletes between the ages 7-15 about the multisport lifestyle is one of the primary objectives of the series, which is focused on participation and having fun, rather than competition. Alongside the races, many of the selected events will hold USA Triathlon-sanctioned youth clinics.

USA Triathlon once again partnered with race directors, community centers, coaches, clubs and parks & recreation departments to solidify the slate of 40 events scheduled for March through October. The USA Triathlon staff will host one of the events in Colorado Springs on Aug. 24.  

Participants ages 7-10 will cover a 100-meter swim and a 1-kilometer run, while athletes ages 11-15 will complete a 200m swim and a 2k run. Visit www.usatsplashanddash.com for complete information on the series.
