The Super Y-League announced today that its 2013 North American Finals, presented by Nike, will be held December 5-9 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. This will mark the second consecutive year the North American Finals have been held at IMG Academy’s world-class facilities.
“The overwhelming consensus among coaches, players and parents was that last year’s North American Finals was by far the best Super Y-League event we’ve hosted, and a large part of the credit goes to IMG Academy,” USL Executive Director of Youth Leagues Jason Arnold said. “Teams traveled from throughout North America to compete for national championships, and the professional atmosphere at IMG Academy added to the excitement and level of competition.”
Created in 1999 with 12 teams, the Super Y-League now includes nearly 80 clubs from throughout the United States and Canada with an average of 500 teams competing in the league every summer. Many of the clubs participating in the league are now affiliated with the top professional and amateur men’s and women’s sides of USL and Major League Soccer, providing a true pyramid of development that mirrors those in traditional soccer nations throughout the world.
Between 8-16 boys teams and 6-8 girls teams will qualify for the 2013 Super Y-League North American Finals in U12 through U17 age divisions. Teams will compete in three days of group play December 5-7, with semifinals and finals set for December 8-9. The 2013 Super Y-League regular season kicks off Saturday.
