USL League One has announced its home openers for the 2024 season, with the league's sixth campaign set to kick off with a trio of intriguing matchups on Saturday, March 9.
Following a record-breaking 2023 campaign, the 2024 season will kick off with three matches on its opening day. 2022 champions South Georgia Tormenta FC will host Central Valley Fuego FC in new Fuego Head Coach Jermaine Jones' first match as a professional coach; the league's all-time winningest club in Greenville Triumph SC will host Spokane Velocity FC in the latter's inaugural league contest; and Lexington SC and new Head Coach Darren Powell will host a retooled Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC squad.
The following weekend, another trio of clubs will open their seasons at home as 2023 finalists the Charlotte Independence will host One Knoxville SC before the league's western clubs in Central Valley Fuego FC and Spokane Velocity FC welcome in the League One's last two Players’ Shield winners in Union Omaha and the Richmond Kickers, respectively.
The third weekend of League One action is highlighted by 2022 Players' Shield winner Richmond Kickers and 2022 league champions South Georgia Tormenta FC opening another season at historic City Stadium along with 2023 expansion duo One Knoxville SC and Lexington SC reigniting their rivalry in the fourth edition of the Barrel Brawl, both on March 23. The season's first month is closed out with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC aiming to even up the all-time series against League One power Union Omaha on March 30.
In April, Forward Madison FC will welcome its flamboyance of supporters back to the 97-year-old Breese Stevens Field in the 15th all-time edition of the Henny Derby against the Richmond Kickers on April 13. Later that month, Union Omaha will return to Werner Park in a matchup against Charlotte on April 20, hoping to avenge its loss in the 2023 USL League One Playoffs to the Independence.
Finally, a new-look Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC side will return to Windsor on May 25 and the Future Legends Complex where it will host the Charlotte Independence.
