Greenville, South Carolina will host the UCI Paracycling World Championships. Events will take place August 28-September 1, 2014
The event is described as “epic in size, scope and reach - the Super Bowl of Para-Cycling.” Over 450 of the world’s best athletes are expected to attend, along with over 200 coaches and support staff from more than 45 countries.
The event features the individual time trial and road race disciplines for men, women and teams. Male and female athletes compete in categories related to defined disabilities, such as
- amputation/limb loss
- blindness/visual impairment
- spinal cord injury/wheelchair-users
- cerebral palsy/brain injury/stroke
Categories of Competition: Athletes compete in categorized events using bicycles adapted to his/her abilities: traditional or adapted bicycles, tandems, tricycles or hand-cycles.
Para-Cycling Time Trials: Athletes start individually in staggered intervals and race against the clock.

Para-Cycling Road Races: There are mass starts for each category. Distances vary, with distances as long as 108 kilometers. Returning to US soil after 16 years: the US has not hosted a para-cycling event of this magnitude since 1998 in Colorado Springs.
