The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a goalball training camp for beginner and intermediate players in Lake Placid, NY from May 26-30, 2014. We are inviting any veteran with an interest in learning more about the game or sharpening their skills to apply. The camp will be held at the US Olympic Training Center and will give participants the chance to train with US National team coaches. USABA will cover flight costs and room and board expenses for selected veterans.

We are also pleased to invite up to six Veteran’s Administration (VA) staff members to attend to help coach and enhance their own goalball knowledge. No prior goalball experience is required; however, we will be looking for VA applicants who have an interest in building goalball programs in their community or having a continued involvement with the 2014 USABA Wounded Warrior Goalball Program. Flight, room and board expenses will also be covered by USABA for VA staff attendees.

Goalball is the only team sport created specifically for the blind and visually impaired. It was created as a means of rehabilitating blinded war veterans after World War II.

No prior goalball experience is required to attend this camp. We are looking for applicants who want to learn the game and discover a new way to stay fit, as well as those who might be interested in playing goalball on a competitive level. Camp attendees will have a chance to receive support to participate in future events as well as upcoming tournaments and future goalball training camps.

Potential Future Goalball Events:

  • Supplementary Developmental Training Camp, Spring/Summer 2014

  • Attendance at a USABA Regional Tournament, Spring 2014

  • USABA National Goalball Championships, Summer 2014
