Wheelchair Basketball at its Finest Coming to NYC

The 14th annual Matthew Sapolin Memorial Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (formerly the Mayor’s Cup) will bring the nation’s best wheelchair basketball teams to New York City for two days of non-stop action on October 11 & 12

 The tournament, held at Horace Mann School in the Bronx, is the largest of its kind in the Northeast and has become one of the premier events on the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) schedule. Relevant dates: Saturday, October 11: Preliminary Rounds (10AM – 7PM); Playoffs and Championship: Sunday, October 12: Playoffs and Championship (9AM – 2PM)

The tournament will be played in a round robin format that guarantees each team plays a minimum of three games.

The tournament is open to all NWBA-sanctioned teams in the Championship and Division III divisions.

Admission is FREE for all spectators!

Entries will be determined on a first-come basis based on when their entry fees are received. Entry fee for the tournament is $250; teams will not be officially registered until the tournament entry fee is paid in full. The deadline for all checks to be received is September 12, 2014.

Participants are eligible for a discounted rate of $129 per room, per night at The Clarion Hotel at LaGuardia Airport. Reservations can be made via telephone by calling (718) 335-1200 and referencing the “Matthew Sapolin Memorial Wheelchair Basketball Tournament Group Rate”. The deadline to guarantee this rate is September 17.
