Warning to sports event planners everywhere: check to make sure the circus isn’t in town – and that there aren’t any other late-breaking conflicts – when planning an event for a particular facility. An ice hockey team for a town in Maine learned that lesson the hard way this week.
The show will go on in the town of Lewiston for the Kora Shrine Circus on Saturday, while the previously scheduled Portland Pirates game — their final game of the regular season — has been relocated to the MHG Ice Centre in Saco.
An article in the Lewiston-Auburn Sun Journal noted,
After negotiating for the better part of 24 hours, Androscoggin Bank Colisee management, the Kora Shriners and the Pirates couldn't work out an amenable solution to keep both events at the Colisee on Saturday. The lighting levels and set-up times for both groups could not be accommodated.
The circus had been scheduled to be presented at the arena first; however, the hockey team’s schedule had changed.
