The Sports Facilities Advisory is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Daugherty as the General Manager of Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Daugherty brings more than 20 years of successful sport event development, management, and facility operations experience, including being part of the opening leadership team for Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Most recently he was the Director of Marketing and New Business Development for Space Coast Sports in Cocoa Beach, Florida. His extensive sports leadership career also includes serving as Operations Manager for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Junior Olympic Games, National Tournament Site Director for the Youth Basketball of America and the Tournament Director for the US Men’s Clay Court Championships.
“Steve has a strong passion for sports and a great deal of knowledge in the sport marketing and event management arena. He is not only a great sports professional but he is even a greater person who will motivate and uplift the people who come in contact with him.” said James Parker, AAU Director of Sports. “I am positive he will do a remarkable job in his new role with Rocky Top Sports World.”
Daugherty will be responsible for ensuring the overall success of Rocky Top Sports World, a $20 million world class development, which is scheduled to open in June, 2014. The 80 acre complex will feature an 86,000 square foot indoor facility, 6 full-sized basketball courts, seven synthetic turf fields, championship stadium, recreational climbing wall, and café.

Funding for the 80-acre facility was provided by the City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County, Tennessee.
