The fields for the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's and Women's National Team Indoor Championships have been announced. The 16 programs were chosen based on their final 2017 Oracle/ITA national ranking.
Gustavus Adolphus College will serve as host of the men's tournament, while Sewanee: The University of the South, is the women's host for the second consecutive year. The men's championship takes place February 23-25, 2018, at the Swanson Tennis Center and one additional facility in St. Peter, Minnesota. The women's tournament runs March 2-4, 2018, at the McCallie School and the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Two-time defending #ITAIndoors champion and reigning NCAA Division III national champion, Emory, headlines the men's eight-team field, which features four additional teams ranked in the Top 10, and all within the Top 20. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (No. 2), Washington University in St. Louis (No. 6), Chicago (No. 9), Carnegie Mellon (No. 10), University of Redlands (No. 11), Trinity (TX) (No. 13) and Gustavus Adolphus (No. 16) comprise the remainder of the men's draw.
Emory returns to defend its #ITAIndoors women's title, and the Eagles, who finished 2017 as NCAA national runners-up and ranked No. 2, will compete against seven teams that closed out the 2017 season in the Top 20 of the national team rankings. Pomona-Pitzer (No. 6), Chicago (No. 9), Carnegie Mellon (No. 10), Washington University in St. Louis (No. 11), Washington & Lee (No. 12), Johns Hopkins (No. 13) and Sewanee (No. 17) round out the women's draw.
At each tournament, Friday and Saturday matches will be played to completion with Sunday matches played to clinch. Doubles will be an 8-game pro set, tiebreak at 7-games-all using regular scoring. After a 5-minute intermission, singles matches will be best-of-three sets using regular scoring. Once a dual match has been clinched, any singles matches that extend to a third set will play a 10-point super tiebreaker in place of a full third set. There will be no 5-minute warm-up with opponents prior to doubles and singles play. Matches will be played on 6 courts whenever possible.
