The Oklahoma City Tennis Center and local junior players were honored at the USTA Missouri Valley Tennis Association’s annual awards banquet over the weekend in Overland Park, Kansas. The Missouri Valley is the USTA’s governing body for the five-state region that includes Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa.
The Oklahoma City Tennis Center was named the MVTA Member Organization of the Year; and the September 25 Andy Roddick/Mardy Fish Junior Tennis Clinic was named the MVTA Event of the Year. Oklahoma City junior players Jordan Henry (Girl’s 14s), and Buddy Wren (Boy’s 16s) were recognized for their sportsmanship on and off the court.
This is the second consecutive year Oklahoma City’s primary public tennis facility has received regional honors. In 2010, the venue was named the region’s Facility of the Year by the USPTA.
The Oklahoma City Tennis Center is home to the OSSAA State High School Championships, a USTA Pro Circuit men’s tour stop, and dozens of state, regional, and national USTA sanctioned events. Over $400,000 in capital improvements have been made to the center in the past two years, including the re-surfacing of all 24 courts in the “US Open blue” color scheme, and a complete remodel to the clubhouse.
