Tennis, anyone? How about GREAT tennis, anyone? And incredibly competitive tennis at that. The USTA sectional qualifying tournaments are on, and up for grabs are wild card berths that just might lead to the 2014 US Open.
The USTA Eastern, USTA Southern California and USTA New England Sectional Qualifying Tournaments were completed this weekend, advancing 12 additional players to the 2014 US Open National Playoffs – Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles Championships in August.
Players from USTA Eastern Section were hosted by the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center; Flushing, N.Y.
Playoffs for USTA Southen California Section took place at The Claremont Club; Claremont, Calif.
USTA New England Section played at Yale University Tennis Center; West Haven, Conn.
The winners or top available finishers from each of the 13 sectional qualifying tournaments held throughout the spring and summer advance to the US Open National Playoffs – Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles Championships, to be held during the Connecticut Open, an Emirates Airline US Open Series women’s event, in August.
The US Open National Playoffs mixed doubles champions receive a main draw wild card into the 2014 US Open, while the men’s and women’s singles champions earn a wild card into the US Open Qualifying Tournament held the week prior to the US Open.

The USTA Northern California Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Salinas, Calif., takes place now through June 22, at the Chamisal Tennis & Fitness Club.
The USTA Florida Sectional Qualifying Tournament is in Tallahassee, Fla., taking place June 19-22, at The Scott Speicher Tennis Center at Florida State University.
The USTA Northern Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Minneapolis takes place June 19-23, at Baseline Tennis Center.
