More than 1,000 competitors from 250-plus clubs and 20 countries are gearing up for this Sunday's 2022 USRowing Indoor National Championships/C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships.
The event, which is being held virtually this year, will feature racing in the under 15, under 17, under 19, under 23, open, para, and masters categories, including lightweight racing in multiple age categories starting with the under 23 events. First-, second- and third-place medals will be up for grabs in a total of 88 race categories.
The men's and women's U19 events lead the way in terms of total entries. The men's U19 race features 130 competitors, while the women's race has 94 entries. Both U17 races also topped the 75-entry mark, with 82 women and 78 women entered in their respective events.
In the masters categories, the men's masters C event has 42 entries, while the men's masters D event has 37 entries. Fifty-six para and adaptive athletes are scheduled to race.
At 95, Mile High Rowing Club's Dean Smith is the oldest competitor and one of three athletes who are over the age of 90, while there are six 11-year-old competitors.
As a club, Capital City Rowing has the most entries with 30, followed by Athletes Without Limits with 29 and Rowing Experiences Advancing Cardiovascular Health with 27.
Racing, which will be streamed live on USRowing's YouTube channel, begins at 9 a.m. ET with the under 15 events. Coverage will begin at 8:52 a.m. with a kick-off video.
In addition to live racing, the broadcast will feature pre-recorded interviews with several special guests including USRowing CEO Amanda Kraus; Natasha Strom, Commodore of C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints; Arsahy Cooper, author of "A Most Beautiful Thing;" and athletes from our Olympic Development Program and STEM to Stern programs.
