While the outdoor spring racing season may have been canceled, USRowing is excited to offer our members a chance to race for regional and national titles as part of our USRowing Virtual Youth Championship Series, culminating in the USRowing Virtual Youth National Championships.
USRowing will host seven Virtual Youth Regional Championships (Central, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest) and the USRowing Youth Virtual National Championship over the coming weeks.
Using RegattaCentral's new virtual racing registration and results platform, crews will compete at the regional level in a full slate of Youth National Championship events, with crews qualifying for the Youth Virtual National Championships in June.
Regional times will need to be submitted by Sunday, May 17, with national times being submitted by Sunday, June 14, the original date for the finals of the Youth National Championships. Races will be conducted over 2,000 meters via Concept2 ergometers.
The regional championships will be free to all USRowing Basic + Regatta Package or Championship members who meet the "Youth" definition. Qualification for the Youth Virtual National Championships will follow a similar bid process as the outdoor regatta.
Entry fees for the USRowing Youth Virtual National Championships will be $20 per athlete. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the top three crews in each event, and USRowing will host its annual graduation ceremony online to celebrate our graduating seniors.
In addition, USRowing will be establishing an All-Region and All-American awards program to recognize the top athletes across the country. Results from the Virtual Youth Championship Series regattas will be included as part of the selection process for these awards. More details on these two programs will be available shortly.
A complete list of "boat" categories, the bid process and a rules packet for the Virtual Youth Championship Series will be available next week at www.usrowing.org.
