Wine Country Curling Club (WCCC) is counting down the days until their signature bonspiel, The Crush, comes to Skatetown Ice Arena in Roseville over Labor Day weekend. Placer Valley Tourism (PVT) is thrilled to be partnering with WCCC to bring this exciting event back to Placer Valley that showcases international and Olympic curlers.
Twenty-four teams are participating and with four members on a team that means nearly 100 curlers will be competing at the Crush this year. Several California curling clubs will be representing the Bay Area, Hollywood and Lake Tahoe. Out-of-state teams participating will be traveling from Oregon, Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, South and North Carolina and two Canadian teams will be competing as well.
"The Crush is always a good time and this year will surely not disappoint," commented WCCC President Katie Feldman. "We're excited to see a lot of new teams that haven't experienced curling California style before, so we're ready to show them great ice and good times!"
The first draws will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 and the opening ceremonies are slated for 4:30 p.m. that same day where you can hear the Scottish bagpipes that pay homage to this unique sport. Saturday, Sept. 2 games will begin at 9 a.m. and Sunday the final rounds are scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.
Admission is free to all spectators so if you've ever been curious about curling, come check out The Crush! Skatetown Ice Arena is located at 1009 Orlando Ave in Roseville.
