After Kirk Bauer, JD lost his leg from a grenade explosion in Vietnam in 1969, he experienced the thrill of snow skiing as part of his rehabilitation through Disabled Sports USA, which was just beginning as an organization. Now 44 years later, after 13 years as a volunteer and participant and 31 years as executive director, Kirk has led the organization to become one of the largest programs in the nation; serving individuals with disabilities, through over 100 community DSUSA chapters in 39 states. Kirk was twice awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in battle and holds a Doctorate of Law degree from Boston University.
